Coaching

The parts of the job that do not fit in a staff meeting.

I coach on two things: the work, and the money. I have led an organization for twelve years and made the calls that come with it, and I walked my own family out of more than a hundred thousand dollars of debt by getting clear about what actually mattered. I am ICF Level 2 trained, a Gallup-certified strengths coach, and a YNAB Certified Coach. This is a small practice and it is meant to stay that way.

Two ways people arrive here

i

You book it yourselfYou are paying out of your own pocket for your own reasons. Prices for that are on this page, below, so you can decide without a sales conversation.

ii

Your organization sponsors itAn employer is investing in a leader they do not want to lose. That runs as a scoped three-month engagement, invoiced to the organization. Ask me for a proposal and I will send scope and fee in writing.

Executive coaching

For the leader carrying it, and for the one coming up behind them.

Leading is lonely near the top and exposed on the way up. I work with a small number of people on the parts that do not fit in a staff meeting: the decision you keep circling, the role you grew into and are not sure fits, the confidence gap between what you have done and what you believe about yourself, what comes next.

I am not going to hand you a personality quiz you forget by Friday. I use the strengths and coaching work I am certified in, and I have sat in the chair, so I know which problems are actually leadership problems and which ones are just a bad week.

Sponsored by an organization? The same work runs as a three-month engagement for a rising or newly promoted leader, invoiced to the organization. It usually starts because I have already been in the building for a talk, a working session, or board work. Ask me for a proposal.

The Clarity Hour

One hour, one thing you are stuck on.

Sixty minutes on a single question, with no package attached. People use it for a decision they cannot get out of their own head, a conversation they are dreading, or a next step they keep not taking. If it turns into ongoing work, good. If one hour is all you needed, that is a fine outcome too.

Money coaching

Get your budget set up, with someone who has actually done it.

A few years ago my family owed more than a hundred thousand dollars. What turned it around was not earning more. We got clear about what actually mattered and stopped letting the merely good-enough things quietly eat the money that belonged to it. I am a YNAB Certified Coach, and this is the version of that you can hire.

The Money Setup is three sessions over six weeks. We build your real budget together, set it up in YNAB, and then meet twice more so it holds through real life. If you only want the setup, a single 90-minute session gets you going.

No jargon, no shame, and no investment advice. I am not a financial planner and I do not pretend to be one.

What working with me is like

i

When I say something works, it worked for me firstTwelve years of running an organization, and more than a hundred thousand dollars of my own family's debt paid off. I am not passing along advice I have only read.

ii

I will say the thingNo jargon, and no reframing a hard thing into something softer than it is. If I think you are avoiding the real question, you will hear that from me.

iii

Confidential, and small on purposeWhat you say stays with me, with the exceptions required by law, and I hold myself to the ethical standards of the International Coaching Federation. I keep the practice small on purpose, so the work stays real.

In their words

Tara has a gift for asking the right questions at the right time, keeping your goals front and center even when the details get complex. She helped me reach a pivotal moment of clarity, refine my story, and show up with real confidence.

Elizabeth P.Coaching client

For most of my adult life I lived in fear of money. Working with Tara was emotional at first. She helped me move through that with care and without judgment. I came away with real skills, genuine confidence, and a relationship with my finances I did not think was possible.

Who I am

I am Tara Fitzpatrick-Navarro. I am the CEO of a Mid-Atlantic foundation, I write for the Forbes Nonprofit Council, and I raised two teenagers. For this work the credentials that matter are ICF Level 2 training, the Gallup strengths certification, and the YNAB coach certification, and the rest are on the About page. This work runs on my own time and tools, outside my day job, and I do not take engagements with my employer's funders, grantees, vendors, or partners.

A short note is the place to start, whether you are hiring me for yourself or for someone on your team. I read and answer these myself.

Start with a short note

I am a YNAB Certified Coach, which means that I have been trained to coach people on using YNAB software and the YNAB method. I have met select requirements of YNAB in order to receive this certification, which means that I have the ability to competently coach YNAB to others. I am not an employee of YNAB, and all non-YNAB related opinions and recommendations are my own. My views do not reflect the views of YNAB and its employees or its affiliates.
